Airbus Defence and Space announced that the French Ministry of defence chose l’A330 MRTT as the new air-to-air refuelling aircraft for the French air force. The first delivery is scheduled for 2018. The contract between the French armaments agency (Direction Générale de l'Armement – ADI) and Defence and Space, Airbus will also cover training and qualification of personnel, the supply of spare parts and ground support equipment.
With France, rise to six Nations who have chosen A330 MRTT (In addition to France, Saudi Arabia, Australia, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Singapore) a total of 34 ordered aircraft. The India and Qatar have selected Airbus aircraft and are currently negotiating for the finalization of the contracts.
The A330 MRTT aircraft will be equipped with French Rolls-Royce Trent engines 700 and they will be able to be configured with different layouts that can accommodate up to 271 passengers or 10 stretchers with patients 88 passengers. The air-to-air refuelling systems will include a combination of pod Airbus Refuelling Boom System and Underwing pod “hose-and-drogue”.
