Drone strike halts operations at Israel’s Ramon Airport
Operations at Ramon Airport (ETM) near Eilat in Israel were temporarily suspended after a drone launched from Yemen struck the arrivals hall.
The incident happened on September 10, 2025. The Israel Airports Authority confirmed that the incident led to an immediate halt in takeoffs and landings at the airport, which primarily serves domestic carriers, such as Israir, Arkia, and Air Haifa.
“An UAV launched from Yemen hit the arrivals hall at Ramon Airport in the Arava. At this stage, the situation is frozen, and take-offs and landings at Ramon have been halted,” the authority said, adding that efforts were underway to restore flight operations as quickly as possible.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was investigating the strike. While three additional drones launched from Yemen were intercepted, preliminary findings indicate that the UAV that hit the arrivals hall may have evaded detection systems.
The Emergency service Magen David Adom reported that two people got lightly injured. The southern Israeli airspace was temporarily shut down.
The incident follows a Houthi missile strike on May 4, 2025, which landed near Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport (TLV), injuring six people and causing temporary disruptions to airport operations. All flights were grounded for around 30 minutes, and several major international airlines, including British Airways, Air France, and Delta Air Lines, suspended operations to and from Israel for several days due to safety concerns. The strike marked the first time a missile had landed so close to Israel’s main airport, highlighting vulnerabilities in the country’s air defense systems.
