Korean airline T’way to rebrand as Trinity Airways after new owners take over
South Korean airline T’Way will be rebranded as Trinity Airways. The name change, which was announced on September 8, 2025, follows the acquisition of the South Korean low-cost carrier by the Daemyung Sono Group in February 2025.
The new owners purchased a 46.26% equity stake that was previously controlled by a firm called YeaRimDang Publishing in a transaction that has been valued at 250 billion South Korean Won (US$174 million).
With this deal, the Daemyung Sono Group, which already held a 26.77% stake in the airline, has acquired effective control of T’Way..
As soon as the acquisition was cleared by the Korean competition authorities in June 2025, the new majority shareholder forced the exit of the airline’s CEO. A replacement is expected to be selected by a newly appointed board of directors.
The airline’s new name takes inspiration from the Latin word “trinitas,” referring to three elements which form a unified one. This concept is central to Christian religion and in this particular case, refers to the Daemyung Sono Group’s intention to grow into an integrated travel and hospitality leg with three main business areas: airlines, hotels, and resorts.
The Daemyung Sono Group is South Korea’s largest hospitality group, operating numerous hotels and resorts throughout its home country, as well as some recently acquired properties in the US and France. The company also controls a number of experiential resorts and holiday clubs in South Korea dedicated to sports and outdoor activities.
In addition to the name change, the airline formerly known as T’Way will also be given a whole new corporate identity and livery starting in early 2026.
T’Way operates both short and long-haul routes under a low-cost business model. According to ch-aviation data, as of September 2025 it has a fleet of 44 aircraft. These include six Airbus A330-200, five A330-300s, five Boeing 737 MAX 8, 26 Boeing 737-800s and two Boeing 777-300ER. T’Way is also awaiting the delivery of five new A330-900neos and one additional B737 MAX 8.
However, this may not be the last corporate move the Daemyung Sono Group makes in the airline industry. In October 2024, the hospitality group also acquired an 11% equity stake in another Korean carrier, Air Premia. According to Korean media reports, the investment may be the prelude to an attempt to acquire a majority stake in Air Premia.
Based at Seoul-Incheon international airport (ICN), Air Premia is a hybrid carrier operating a fleet of eight Boeing 787-9 aircraft on regular and charter long-haul routes to destinations across Asia, the US and Europe.
