Malaysia Airlines enters codeshare with Qantas to boost Australia-Asia travel
Flag carriers and fellow oneworld alliance members Malaysia Airlines and Qantas have announced a new codeshare partnership to enhance travel options across Australia, Malaysia, and beyond.
Malaysia Airlines will add its ‘MH’ code to 18 domestic routes operated by Qantas in Australia, providing smoother onward connections to cities like Canberra, Darwin, Hobart, and Launceston.
“Australia has long been a core part of our network, and our recent investments – including the deployment of the A330neo, increase in flight frequencies, and the resumption of services to Brisbane – reflect our commitment to meeting growing demand while enhancing our premium offering in this market,” said Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group, in a statement announcing the partnership.
Meanwhile, Qantas will place its ‘QF’ code on Malaysia Airlines flights between Kuala Lumpur and major Australian cities – Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney – as well as to Singapore and popular Malaysian destinations such as Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Langkawi, and Penang.
Cam Wallace, CEO of Qantas International, said the partnership demonstrates the airline’s “commitment to offering more choice and convenience through an expanding network” of both airlines.
This collaboration comes as Malaysia Airlines prepares for a significant expansion in the Australian market later in 2025.
