Uzbekistan Airways orders 22 Boeing 787s in largest deal in airline history
Uzbekistan Airways, the national airline of the Republic of Uzbekistan, has announced that it will acquire up to 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which is the single largest order from Boeing in the airline’s history.
This includes a confirmed order for 14 787-9s, with options for eight more aircraft, Uzbekistan Airways and Boeing confirmed in separate statements on September 22, 2025. The airline noted that deliveries from this new order are scheduled to begin in 2031.
Republic of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev joined Boeing and Uzbekistan Airways leaders to commemorate this order on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Additionally, Boeing and the Uzbekistan Ministry of Transport also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to explore opportunities to further expand the country’s aviation ecosystem.
The airline targets growth across several destinations
Boeing stated that the 787-9 will enable Uzbekistan Airways to expand its international routes to the US and other long-haul destinations. The airline said that these destinations include Central Asia and North America, Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region.
“With this new contract, we are further strengthening both our airline’s and our nation’s position as a leading aviation hub in Central Asia, while providing our passengers with greater global connectivity,” said Shukhrat Khudaykulov, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airways.
Boeing added that Uzbekistan Airways’ purchase will upgrade its widebody fleet and help support almost 35,000 jobs in the US.
“We value our nearly 30-year partnership with Uzbekistan Airways and will continue to support their growth strategy as they further connect the region and world,” said Brad McMullen, Boeing Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, adding that the 787 Dreamliner will help the airline to expand into new markets.
The region’s only long-haul 787 operator
Uzbekistan Airways is the only airline in Central Asia that flies long-haul Boeing 787 Dreamliners and has been successfully using this aircraft for almost a decade. The airline received its first 787-8 Dreamliner in 2016.
Currently, the carrier operates scheduled flights to more than 95 international and domestic destinations, connecting Uzbekistan with key centers in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and North America.
