Spirit Airlines ends service at 2 more US airports amid ongoing restructuring
Ultra-low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines will cease operations at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) in Minnesota, United States by the end of 2025.
The airline announced it will cancel its services to and from the airport starting December 1, 2025. Spirit will also stop flights to Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, Connecticut, beginning October 31, 2025.
According to a statement from a company representative shared with the Minnesota Star Tribune on September 29, 2025, the decision to end service at both airports is part of the company’s “ongoing restructuring”.
“We have adjusted our upcoming schedule to focus on our strongest markets,” the airline said in a statement to the Minnesota Star Tribune. “We thank our airport, business and community partners in Connecticut and Minnesota for their support over the years.”
Spirit is also shutting down service in other regions of the country. After filing for bankruptcy, Spirit revealed that a dozen other airports across the US will lose service in October 2025.
In addition to the airport reductions, the airline is finalizing a 25% reduction in its November 2025 schedule. In a note to employees issued on September 26, 2025, the airline said it is suspending approximately 40 routes as part of this reduction.
In its most recent update, Spirit indicated that it plans to furlough a third of its 5,200 flight attendants starting November 1, 2025.
Spirit’s current trajectory has raised doubts about its long-term stability and its capacity to stay competitive. The carrier filed for Chapter 11 protection in New York on August 29, 2025, just under six months after coming out of its initial bankruptcy in March 2025.
