Changi debuts sensory-friendly facility for neurodivergent travelers
Singapore’s Changi Airport (SIN) has opened its first sensory-friendly facility designed to support neurodivergent travelers and their caregivers during their journey.
Called the Calm Room, the space spans more than 200 square meters and provides a quiet, calming environment for passengers with invisible disabilities, helping them manage sensory overload and travel-related stress.
Located in Terminal 2’s departure transit area, the facility is the latest addition to Changi’s CARE@Changi program, which works to create a more inclusive travel experience for all passengers.
According to Changi Airport, the Calm Room’s design was created in partnership with organizations including the Asian Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA) and Metta Welfare Association (MWA), whose expertise helped ensure the space meets the specific needs of neurodivergent individuals.
Changi Airport Group (CAG) also conducted interviews and feedback sessions with families of people with invisible disabilities to create a space that is both safe and comforting for neurodivergent travelers and their companions.
The facility represents a growing recognition within the aviation industry of the need for inclusive infrastructure that accommodates diverse passenger needs.
