BOC Aviation to lease three Boeing 737-8 aircraft to India’s Akasa Air
Aircraft operating leasing company BOC Aviation has finalized a purchase-and-leaseback deal for three Boeing 737-8 aircraft with India’s newest low-cost carrier, Akasa Air.
All aircraft will be equipped with CFM LEAP-1B engines and are set to be delivered to the airline in January 2026under long-term operating leases, the lessor announced in a statement on November 4, 2025.
“We are pleased to welcome Akasa as a new customer for BOC Aviation at this exciting stage of their development,” said Paul Kent, the CCO at BOC Aviation. “The Boeing 737-8 is one of the world’s most popular single-aisle jets, and this transaction leverages our ability to provide capital to support our customers’ fleet expansion.”
Priya Mehra, Chief of Governance & Strategic Acquisitions at Akasa Air, said that the airline’s fleet growth is driven by a careful and sustainable strategy, ensuring “operational efficiency while delivering a reliable and differentiated flying experience”.
“We are pleased to partner with BOC Aviation, strengthening Akasa Air’s long-term growth strategy and our continued commitment to expanding connectivity in both domestic and international markets,” Mehra added.
In August 2025, Akasa Air marked the third anniversary of its regular scheduled passenger flights. The airline launched its first passenger service on August 7, 2022, using a Boeing 737 MAX 8 for the route between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
The airline began international flights to Doha, Qatar in March 2024, becoming the first Indian airline to operate overseas just 19 months after its launch.
In July 2025, Akasa Air made a firm order for 226 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, equipped with CFM LEAP-1B engines.
The airline currently operates 30 737 MAX aircraft and said it has served over 20 million passengers across 24 domestic and six international destinations. The post BOC Aviation to lease three Boeing 737-8 aircraft to India’s Akasa Air appeared first on AeroTime.
