Book. “Marin et Pilote – Servir en mer et dans les airs”
This book recounts the extraordinary life of a pilot and a great figure in the military: Ramon Josa.
Spain then France, the sea then the skies! Born on the other side of the Pyrenees, the young Ramon Josa arrived in France at the age of two as a refugee, with the Spanish Civil War raging at full force. The year was 1938, and this stay in France would end up lasting quite a while for the young man, who would soon become a naturalized French citizen. Two decades later, in the mid-1950s, he became a quartermaster mechanic on the aircraft carrier La Fayette. Nothing yet predestined him for a career in the air, but that is what happened when one day he met an officer who showed him the way: he volunteered to become a fighter pilot in 1961.
The rest of his career was, of course, closely linked to aeronautics, operating from the La Fayette, L’Arromanches, Le Clemenceau, and Le Foch during missions in Algeria and, in 1983, in Lebanon, at the controls of the Dassault Super Étendard. Leaving the military with the rank of frigate captain and returning to civilian life, he contributed to the construction of the Charles de Gaulle and gave presentations on legendary aircraft such as the Corsair F4U7 and the Fouga Zéphyr. His record: 6,500 flight hours and some 800 landings. This book recounts in great detail his life spent between sky and earth, serving France.
