Malaysia Aviation Group appoints new airline chief, strategy head in reshuffle
Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) announced that it has appointed two senior executives to key leadership positions as the company shifts from recovery mode to expansion under its long-term business plan.
Bryan Foong Chee Yeong will take over as Chief Executive Officer of Airline Business, while Low Wen Long assumes the role of Group Chief Strategy Officer, both effective February 1, 2026. The appointments come as the aviation group enters what leadership describes as a new phase focused on “scaled and disciplined growth” following years of pandemic-era restructuring.
Both executives will report directly to Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, who becomes President and Group CEO on the same date.
Strategic reshuffling
In his new role, Foong will oversee the performance and direction of MAG’s airline portfolio, which includes flagship carrier Malaysia Airlines along with regional operators Firefly and Amal. He moves up from his current position as Group Chief Strategy Officer, where he helped guide the company through financial restructuring during the COVID-19 crisis and its subsequent return to profitability.
Low, who has served as Head of Corporate Strategy since 2018, will now lead enterprise-wide strategic planning across all business units. During his tenure, he’s been involved in shaping the group’s transformation roadmap under its second and third long-term business plans, with particular focus on fleet planning and network optimization.
“As MAG enters the next stage of its transformation, marking a shift from stabilization to scaled and disciplined growth, we are guided by a clear responsibility to build a financially sustainable and globally competitive aviation group,” Captain Nasaruddin said in a statement announcing the changes.
Broader leadership team
MAG said that the reshuffling is part of a wider executive realignment at the aviation group. Foong and Low join an existing leadership structure that includes Mohd Nadziruddin Mohd Basri as Chief Executive Officer of Aviation Services and Philip See leading Loyalty & Travel Services.
Recent additions to the team include Amran Mohd Tomin as Group Chief People Officer and Ong Min Hui as Group Chief Transformation and Customer Experience Officer.
The appointments signal MAG’s intention to strengthen coordination across its three core business areas as it works to execute what it calls Long-Term Business Plan 3.0, aimed at driving growth while maintaining financial stability.
