Actions of Blue Angels pilot called into question over low pass at busy US beach
The actions of a US Navy pilot for the Blue Angels aerobatic display team are under review after video footage emerged of a low altitude pass at a busy Florida beach.
On July 15, 2026, the US Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron confirmed that it was aware of the footage showing a pass by a team aircraft over Pensacola Beach earlier that day.
In the video dozens of beachgoers can be seen sitting on the shoreline as two Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornets pass by.
While the first aircraft appears to be at a safe distance, the second comes much closer with the gathered crowds seemingly just meters away.
The Blue Angels are scheduled to perform at Pensacola Beach Air Show on July 18, 2026.

The Blue Angels confirmed that the team’s leadership is “reviewing the circumstances surrounding the maneuver” and carrying out a “thorough safety review to ensure all operations adhere to strict Navy and FAA safety standards”.
The Blue Angels team is stationed at Forrest Sherman Field, Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, during the air show season.
In its mission statement the group says: “The mission of the Blue Angels is to showcase the teamwork and professionalism of the United States Navy and Marine Corps through flight demonstrations and community outreach while inspiring a culture of excellence and service to country.”
