Russia steps up funding for MC-21 production, support also for first IL-114-300s
Russia is to increase investment in the continued production of the MC-21 aircraft and has allocated more funds for the first three IL-114-300 turboprops.
On July 30, 2026, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signaled the government’s commitment to building commercial aircraft free from foreign production.
According to several Russian news outlets, there are 18 MC-21-310 aircraft at Yakovlev’s Irkutsk Aircraft Plant currently at various stages of production.
Prime Minister Mikhail confirmed that the funding has now been secured to see the project through and deliver the aircraft to launch customer Aeroflot. According to ch-aviation data, Aeroflot is awaiting 198 MC-21-310 aircraft to be delivered.
The Russian politician said that further funding is designed to “prevent the conveyor belt from stopping and to take all necessary measures to fulfill the planned order by 2035”.

The MC-21-310 is constructed wholly from Russian parts and components and relies on native aircraft systems. The aircraft is powered by the Russian built PD-14 engine.
Western sanctions introduced following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine crippled the country’s aviation sector, forcing President Putin to focus on building domestic aircraft to replace Airbus and Boeing narrowbody jets.
The certification process for the MC-21-310 is expected to be completed in June 2027. The smaller MS-21-210 is currently in development.
Russia plans to produce 36 MS-21 aircraft every year by 2032.
Funding for first three IL-114-300 turboprops
Prime Minister Mikhail also announced funding for the first three production IL-114-300 turboprop aircraft, developed by Rostec’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) subsidiary Ilyushin.
The company will receive $32.8 million (RUB 2.6 billion) to complete the three domestically produced passenger aircraft.
The Ilyushin Il-114 variant seats up to 68 passengers and with a range of just over 1,000 nautical miles.
The first three aircraft will be delivered to Arkhangelsk Aviation Enterprise. The IL-114-300 received type certification in June 2026.
