American Airlines unveils first B777-300ER retrofitted with Flagship Suites
American Airlines unveiled its first Boeing 777-300ER retrofitted with Flagship Suites.
The Flagship cabin is American Airlines’ newest premium offering, and, to this date, it was only available on a limited number of Boeing 787-9 and A321XLR aircraft.
The progressive roll out of Flagship across its long-haul fleet represents a significant restructuring of American Airlines’ premium offering.
Retrofit adds 70 Flagship Suites and removes First Class
By installing the state-of-the art Flagship Suites, the US carrier is not just upgrading its business class cabin to the industry’s latest standards, including free high-speed broadband and a state-of-the-art inflight entertainment system, but also eliminating First Class entirely.
This move allows the airline to increase the number of premium seats on the B777-300ER, with eight first and 52 legacy business class seats replaced by 70 new generation Flagship Suites. The number of Premium Economy seats has also been increased from 28 to 44.
Following the Flagship introduction, the legacy First class will no longer be available for booking from November 19, 2026. Likewise, the expansion of American Airlines’ A321XLR fleet will lead to First being discontinued also on US Transcontinental flights from March 28, 2026.
First retrofitted Boeing 777 begins commercial service
The retrofitting of American Airlines’ fleet of 20 B777-300ER, will make the Flagship Suites available for booking on a number of long-haul routes, such as those linking the United States to Tokyo (NRT), Sao Paulo (GRU), Buenos Aires (EZE) and Sydney (SYD), which are usually operated by this type of aircraft.
The Argentinian capital became the first destination to be served by the Flagship-equipped B777-300ER, on September 2, 2026, with a flight from New York (JFK).
