Honda backs Thrive’s fractional launch with refurbished HondaJets

Honda Aircraft is backing Thrive Aviation’s move into fractional ownership with a minority investment and refurbished HondaJets, as the Las Vegas operator launches a program offering shares in HondaJets and Bombardier Challenger 3500s.

Honda Aircraft President and CEO Hideto Yamasaki said the deal closed over the summer after several years of discussions and due diligence. Under the partnership, announced in September 2026, Honda subsidiary Arulean Air will acquire aircraft while Thrive manages flight operations and customer accounts.

Thrive displayed the program’s first HondaJet and Challenger 3500 at NBAA-BACE 2026 in Las Vegas. The company plans to begin operations on the West Coast, with a goal of adding four to six HondaJets and two to four Challenger 3500s annually as demand grows.

Fractional customers buy a share of an aircraft and receive an allocation of flying time, while the operator supplies the crews and handles maintenance and scheduling. Thrive will sell shares in both the HondaJet and Challenger 3500, covering the light-jet and super-midsize categories.

Customers will also have access to Thrive’s existing fleet of about 30 aircraft. The terms of that access, including how flights on other aircraft types would be priced, were not specified.

Thrive Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Curtis Edenfield showed off the refurbished HondaJet at Henderson Executive Airport during NBAA-BACE 2026, expressing enthusiasm for the company’s expansion into fractional ownership.

Honda Aircraft refurbished the jet with fresh exterior paint and new leather upholstery. The cabin also has a side-facing passenger seat. The refurbishment did not include an avionics upgrade.

Honda Aircraft also sells pre-owned HondaJets and offers interior refurbishment, performance and avionics upgrades. Jets sold through its Certified Pre-Owned program undergo an inspection covering more than 208 points and required maintenance, and come with a 12-month extended airframe warranty and an initial pilot type-rating course.

Founded in 2018, Thrive already offers charter flights, aircraft management and jet cards. It owns about 10 aircraft and manages another 20, with a fleet ranging from Citation light jets to large-cabin Gulfstreams.

“We’re building another major piece of the Thrive platform and something we expect to scale for a long time,” Edenfield said.

For Honda, the investment comes as it develops the larger, longer-range HondaJet Echelon with fractional operators among its intended customers, Yamasaki said.

Edenfield expressed interest in the Echelon but declined to discuss plans for including it in Thrive’s fractional program.

Honda is designing the Echelon to fly 2,625 nautical miles with one pilot and four passengers, with seating configurations accommodating up to 11 occupants. The aircraft would offer more cabin space and range than the current HondaJet, although its performance figures remain development targets.

Honda is targeting a first flight in 2028 and certification and first delivery in 2031, citing supplier-related schedule adjustments and continuing development work. The first wing structure has been completed, and final assembly is targeted to begin in early 2027.The post Honda backs Thrive’s fractional launch with refurbished HondaJets appeared first on AeroTime.
