CH-53K completes first sea trials
The CH-53K King Stallion went out to sea aboard USS Wasp earlier this month for its first sea trials, NAVAIR said on Jun. 24.
During the two-week testing out in the Atlantic, the helicopter took off and land in the day, night, and with night vision goggles. All these were done in increasing wind speed and varying wind directions relative to the aircraft, NAVAIR said.
Col. Jack Perrin, H-53 helicopters program manager, declared that the CH-53K is now a “feet-wet” warrior from the sea.
Marines and sailors were also able to check if the helicopter is able to fit around the deck and in the hangar.
