Five possible bed down locations for Singapore’s F-16s and F-35s in United States
The U.S. Air Force has revealed the five locations that Singapore is considering for its new F-16 and F-35 base in the United States.
They are: Fort Smith Airport in Arkansas, Hulman Field in Indiana, Buckley Air Force Base in Colorado, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas, and Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Michigan.
Singapore’s F-16C/D fighters are now located at Luke Air Force Base under the 425th fighter squadron. There is another F-15SG detachment at Mountain Home Air Force Base.
The island has said that it will be buying the F-35B and the new plan is to collocate both its F-16s and F-35s at a new long-term site. For this, U.S. Secretary of the Air Force Barbara Barrett signed a memorandum on Jul. 6 to establish the permanent training center. It was also disclosed that Singapore intends to base 24 to 36 F-35s at this new location.
