Taiwan to retire Hawk missile system by end of the year; deploys Bee Eye radar to South China Sea
Taiwan is said to be preparing to retire the MIM-23 HAWK medium-range surface-to-air missile system by end of the year.
The missile system’s MPQ-50 Pulse Acquisition Radar will be transferred to the Army. The 6th, 8th and 10th Army Commands will each receive a radar.
Meanwhile, it was separately reported that the CS/MPQ-90 Bee Eye tactical air defense radar made by National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) has been deployed to Pratas Island in the South China Sea.
It is unknown if any weapon system was deployed together with the indigenous radar system.
