Lilium and Atlantic Aviation partner to deploy eVTOL aircraft in the US
Lilium, a German company that develops electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, has partnered with Atlantic Aviation, a provider of aviation services and fixed-base operations (FBOs) to prepare for the launch of Lilium Jet’s regional air mobility service in the United States.
This collaboration will focus on the integration of the Lilium Jet into Atlantic’s network of over 100 FBOs across North America, including locations in Florida, Southern California, the Northeast corridor, and Texas.
The partnership will concentrate on infrastructure deployment and operations, prioritizing the passenger experience and strategic planning of aircraft flight paths, charging capabilities, and passenger facilities.
“Atlantic Aviation is eager to work alongside Lilium, a pioneer in the burgeoning eVTOL sector, to construct the necessary infrastructure for their regional air mobility service in the United States,” said John Redcay, Chief Commercial and Sustainability Officer at Atlantic. “This collaboration underscores our firm conviction in the transformative potential of eVTOL technology in reshaping regional travel, and we are dedicated to furnishing the technology-agnostic infrastructure and assistance required to bring this vision to fruition.”
Lilium’s commercialization strategy involves manufacturing and selling the Lilium Jet for private, premium, and shuttle operations while focusing on aftermarket support and services. To make this strategy a success, Lilium is working hard to prepare aviation facilities for the Lilium Jet, which makes the partnership with Atlantic an essential one.
Lilium’s eVTOL aircraft design is unique because it takes a different approach than its competitors. While other eVTOL aircraft designs are inspired by helicopters, Lilium’s is more like a jet aircraft. The Lilium Jet uses Ducted Electric Vectored Thrust (DEVT) technology, which allows the aircraft to take off vertically and then accelerate horizontally, resembling the takeoff of a conventional airplane.
On November 27, 2023, Lilium received design organization approval from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which marks the start of Lilium Jet production.
