Aeromexico unveils special B787-9 Mayan-themed livery for 90th anniversary
On September 14, 2024, Aeromexico, Mexico’s longest-standing and national carrier, is set to celebrate its 90th anniversary.
To commemorate the occasion, the airline has unveiled a special B787-9 livery inspired by Mayan culture.
We know how much you love our aircraft! ✈️ That’s why we’re excited to introduce “Kukulcán,” a Boeing 737 MAX-9 designed by the artist @saner_edgar , featuring elements of Mexican folklore. pic.twitter.com/7r1mcSv3LI— Aeromexico USA (@AeromexicoUSA) August 21, 2024The B787-9, with registration XA-GQS, bears a colorful design inspired by Mexican folklore.
The livery features Kukulkan, whose name in the Mayan language, k’ukulk’an, translates as ‘feathered serpent’ – a prominent figure among the Mayan deities.
The livery was created by renowned Mexican street artist, illustrator and graphic designer Edgar Flores, also known as ‘Saner’.
In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), Aeromexico said it will reveal more details on September 10, possibly with an update on which routes the B787-9 will fly to.
Leading up to its 90th anniversary, Aeromexico had been working on a strategic rebranding campaign, aimed at positioning the airline “not only at the summit of contemporary Mexican excellence, but also at the forefront of global Mexican icons”.
