Le Fana de l’Aviation
For the October 2024 issue, the monthly magazine for aircraft enthusiasts has picked the nuclear deterrent version of the Mirage 2000, the Mirage 2000N, to appear on the cover.
Designed by Daniel Bechennec as usual, the captivating cover of issue no. 659 of “Le Fana de l’Aviation” pays tribute to the Dassault Mirage 2000N – a “nuclear deterrent” version of its predecessor. This exceptional fighter was commissioned in the late 1980s and retired in 2018, paving the way for the Mirage 2000D. To give it the honors it deserves (“a robust and reliable warrior aircraft”, according to the editorial board), “Le Fana de l’Aviation” relied on detailed account by Colonel Gilbert Michel, who logged some 2,000 flying hours on board the aircraft.
The editorial board also offers a close-up on the Hawker Sea Fury, a British fighter from the end of the Second World War, powered by the Centaurus engine, coverage of patrols aboard the Dassault Rafale and the North American P-51 Mustang (and other military aircraft) in the skies over Melun during the Air Legend airshow, in addition to several articles focusing on carrier-based aviation in Lebanon in the early 1980s (corroborated by firsthand accounts).
Another unmissable feature in this edition: a leap back in time to mark the 60th anniversary of the first nuclear alert, onboard the North American F-100 Super Sabre. Not to mention the mainstays of the magazine, like news articles focusing on military aircraft and book releases.
