Jet component supplier Howmet may halt shipments amid tariff challenges: report
Howmet Aerospace, a major supplier of aerospace components in the U.S., has reportedly informed customers that it may suspend certain shipments due to the impact of tariffs introduced by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Pittsburgh-based Howmet Aerospace, known for producing jet engine components, fasteners, and titanium structures for the aerospace industry, has reportedly notified customers in a letter that it has declared a force majeure event. This legal provision frees parties from their contractual obligations when confronted with unforeseen and uncontrollable circumstances.
Howmet stated that it would be excused from supplying any products or services affected by the declared national emergency or the tariff executive order. However, the supplier also expressed a willingness to negotiate over the sharing of tariff costs, offering to collaborate with customers and discuss potential solutions to mitigate the impact of the Tariff Executive Order on the company.
“Howmet will be excused from supplying any products or services that are impacted by this declared national emergency and/or the tariff executive order,” Howmet Aerospace was cited as saying by Reuters.
The full impact of the tariffs on global supply chains and production costs is still unfolding. Already, the tariffs have begun to affect major players in the aviation industry, with stock prices for aerospace giants like Airbus and Boeing experiencing notable declines. Given the aviation sector’s heavy reliance on free trade, this disruption has sparked widespread concern.
