Brussels Airport cancels all departing flights as Belgium workers strike
A general strike in Belgium has seen Brussels Airport (BRU) cancel all its scheduled departing flights and warn of possible cancellations for aircraft set to arrive.
On April 29, 2025, security staff and handling service providers walked out as part of nationwide strikes in Belgium over government budget cuts.
In response to industrial action by staff, Brussels Airport said that it had “decided, in consultation with the airlines, not to operate any departing flights” on April 29, 2025.
“As departing passenger flights are cancelled, cancellations are also possible on arriving flights,” a spokesperson for the airport said.
Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL) went further and cancelled all flights that were scheduled to depart and arrive.

They added: “We regret the impact of this national strike on our passengers’ travel plans and apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
Responding to the strikes Iberia, which is already scrambling to return to normal service following power cuts in Spain, said it would not be flying to Brussels today.
Due to national strike, there are no passenger flights departing Brussels Airport today and arriving flights are significantly impacted as well. The strikes in Belgium are being led by the trade unions CVC/ACV and FGTB/ABVV and are the fourth time that workers have taken industrial action against government reforms this year.
According to The Brussels Times, strikes have left the Port of Antwerp-Bruges completely hamstrung and only one metro line is running with bus and tram services also canceled.
