Heart Aerospace relocates to California, winds down Swedish operation
Heart Aerospace, one of the most prominent startups working on the development of a hybrid-electric clean-sheet airliner, announced on April 30, 2025, that it is moving its corporate headquarters from Gothenburg, in Western Sweden, to Los Angeles, California.
In a press release announcing the move, which will involve the winding down of the firm’s operations in Sweden, Heart Aerospace stated that the relocation is motivated by the need to deploy the available financial resources in a way that maximizes the chances of scaling up the business.
In the same press release, the company also announced its increased focus on iterative development and in deepening its vertical integration, right as the company prepares to flight test its first two prototypes, called “X1” and “X2”, respectively.
Although Heart Aerospace began in Sweden, the company has always had strong links with the United States.
The firm’s Swedish husband-and-wife founding team graduated from the renowned Y Combinator startup acceleration program in the Bay Area and its research and development team, including the chief technology officer, have been based in Los Angeles since May 2024.
Flight testing of the ES-30 aircraft prototypes has long been scheduled to take place in the US, although this will be on the East Coast. In November 2024, Heart Aerospace announced it had selected Plattsburgh, New York, as the airfield where the first test flights will be conducted.
Speaking to AeroTime at a media event in Gothenburg in September 2024, Heart Aerospace’s co-founder and CEO, Anders Forslund, explained that the X1 demonstrator was going to be disassembled and transferred to the US for the start of the flight test campaign.
With regards to second prototype, the X2, in the press release announcing the US move, Forslund stated:
“For the X2, we’re developing key technologies like batteries, actuation systems, software, and hybrid-electric hardware in-house. This approach allows us to refine and enhance our systems continuously, just as we’ve done with the X1 prototype, which has seen extensive testing and major design updates since its initial rollout in 2024.”
Heart Aerospace closed a $107 million Series B funding round in February 2024, which was followed by an additional $40 million round in early 2025. The post Heart Aerospace relocates to California, winds down Swedish operation appeared first on AeroTime.
