Vietjet and Qazaq Air join forces to launch new airline, Vietjet Qazaqstan
Vietnamese budget carrier Vietjet Air and Kazakhstan’s Qazaq Air have banded together to form a new low-cost airline, Vietjet Qazaqstan.
Vietjet Qazaqstan is set to operate a fleet of at least 20 Boeing 737 aircraft. The new carrier will build on the existing Qazaq Air platform, and is expected to connect Kazakhstan with Vietnam and the rest of Southeast Asia.
The new airline was unveiled during the Kazakhstan–Vietnam Business Roundtable on May 6, 2025, as part of Vietnamese General Secretary To Lam’s three-day state visit to Kazakhstan.
According to Vietjet, Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance granted a Foreign Investment Registration Certificate to Aviation Holdings, a subsidiary of Vietjet, authorizing its acquisition of a strategic equity stake in Qazaq Air.
“This move marks a key milestone in Vietjet’s international expansion strategy and aims to deepen bilateral ties between Vietnam and Kazakhstan across aviation, economic, and cultural domains,” Vietjet Air said in a statement.
During the roundtable event, Vietjet Qazaqstan also signed a Customer Services General Terms Agreement with Boeing to support the future B737 fleet operated by Vietjet Qazaqstan.
Under the agreement, Boeing will provide comprehensive services including software solutions, spare parts supply, technical assistance, as well as training programs for pilots and engineers. The partnership also covers aircraft modifications and upgrades to ensure efficient and safe operations.
Vietjet Qazaqstan will adopt modern operating models, digital management systems, and advanced training programs for its workforce, with ongoing technical and operational support from Vietjet.
During his visit, General Secretary To Lam said in a press briefing that Vietnam and Kazakhstan have maintained close relations for decades. He said the relationship began in August 1959 when then President Ho Chi Minh paid an official visit to Kazakhstan, paving the way for a long-standing cooperation between the two nations.
The Vietnamese General Secretary’s state visit also officially upgraded the ties between Vietnam and Kazakhstan from a bilateral partnership to a strategic partnership agreement.
