JetZero selects North Carolina for blended-wing-body aircraft assembly plant
JetZero, the US startup currently developing a revolutionary blended-wing-body (BWB) Z4 airliner, announced on June 12, 2025, that it had selected Greensboro, North Carolina, as the location of its new assembly plant.
This large-scale industrial facility will be adjacent to Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO) and is expected to be capable of building up to 20 Z4 aircraft per month.
When it reaches full production capacity, by the late 2030s, JetZero could employ a staff of around 14,000.
“North Carolina offers the ideal combination of talent, infrastructure, and forward-thinking leadership to support our mission to reshape aviation,” said Tom O’Leary, JetZero’s CEO and co-founder, in the press statement announcing this investment ahead of the 2025 Paris Air Show.
Work on the construction of the new Greensboro facility will begin in 2026, with the plant expected to start production at the start of the next decade.
JetZeroJetZero is seeking to change the paradigm in the aircraft manufacturing industry by introducing a totally novel, clean-sheet design. While conventionally powered, it has the potential to halve fuel consumption and carbon emissions when compared to legacy aircraft of the same size.
Although it has been in the market for barely two years, JetZero has already garnered the interest of major aerospace players such as the US Department of Defense, which is funding part of its development program, as well as large airlines such as Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, which have seen promise in the concept.
