Air India pays poignant tribute to ‘cherished’ cabin crew killed in 787-8 crash
Air India has paid a poignant tribute to the cabin crew killed when a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff in Ahmedabad.
In a social media post shared on June 20, 2025, the deceased Air India colleagues were named as Aparna Amol Mahadik, Shradha Mahadev Dhavan, Deepak Balasaheb Pathak, Irfan Samir Shaikh, Lamnunthem Singson, Maithili Patil, Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma, Saineeta Abin Chakravarti, Manisha Thapa and Roshni Rajendra Songhare.
Air India said the cabin crew members “will be remembered with love” and described the individuals as “family” who “flew with compassion”.
“With hearts full of sorrow, we remember the cabin crew members we lost – beloved colleagues, cherished friends, and the soul of every journey they were a part of. Their grace, warmth, and unwavering care touched thousands of lives in the skies and on the ground. To passengers, they were calm and comforting faces,” the tribute read.
The airline added: “To us, they were family. Senior leaders from the Tata Group and Air India continue to stand beside their families and loved ones – to honor their memory, share in their grief, and offer quiet strength in a moment that words cannot ease. Their kindness, spirit, and dedication will forever remain a part of who we are.”

Tragically, Air India Boeing 787-8 crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) on June 12, 2025, killing 229 passengers and 12 crew members on board. A British national named Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, who was sat in seat 11A, survived the crash.
According to The Economic Times, 34 people on the ground were also killed when the plane stuck the campus of Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College and Civil Hospital.
Indian GovernmentThe publication also said that a black box recovered from the crash site had been sent to the US where the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will try to extract the data.
A source told the Economic Times that the black box had “sustained heavy external damage from post-crash fire”.
On June 19, 2025, Air India announced that it is cancelling 15% of its wide-body long-haul flights until mid-July 2025.
