Qantas’ first A321XLR arrives in Sydney after long intercontinental journey
Qantas’ first A321XLR has touched down at Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD) after departing from Airbus’ facilities in Finkenwerder, Hamburg, Germany on June 30, 2025.
The aircraft, registered VH-OGA and named ‘Great Ocean Road’, made a stopover at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), before making its final nine-hour flight to Sydney airport.
The aircraft is the first of 28 A321XLR ordered by Qantas and features the widest cabin of any narrowbody, with more seats, bigger windows, and space for 60% more bags compared to the Boeing 737, which the A321XLR will replace.
The A321XLR is fitted with a two-class cabin, consisting of 20 business class seats and either 177 or 180 seats in economy class.
The arrival of the A321XLR ushers in a new generation of long-haul travel in single-aisle cabins for the Australasian region.
With a maximum flight time of 11 hours, and a range of 4,700 nautical miles, the aircraft can serve flights from Australia to the Asia-Pacific region without refuelling.
