Norwegian acquires three B737-800s from lessor
Norwegian Air Shuttle is acquiring three of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft that it has been operating under lease.
In a July 8, 2025, filing with the Oslo Stock Exchange, where the airline is listed, Norwegian stated that the deal aims to “secure the company’s future fleet, enhancing financial flexibility, and increasing asset ownership to support long-term operational and strategic growth, in addition to reduced overall ownership cost.”
The expected timeframe for the closure of the transaction, which the airline will fund through its own cash reserves, is Q3 2025.
By acquiring these three aircraft, Norwegian expects to generate a one-off non-recurring gain of NOK 260 million (€22 million) due to the favorable terms obtained from the seller as well as the reduction on financial liabilities. The airline also expects to generate recurring annual savings of NOK 25 million (€2.1 million) per year thereafter by switching from rental to ownership of the aircraft.
Norwegian already executed a similar transaction in March 2025, through which it became the owner of another 10 Boeing 737-800 it had previously leased for its operations.
According to data from ch-aviation, as of June 2025, Norwegian Air Shuttle operates 37 Boeing 737-800s plus another B737-8 MAX aircraft, while its fully owned subsidiary Norwegian Air Sweden has 25 and 22 of each B737 version, respectively. Norwegian Air Shuttle also has 50 B737-8 MAX on order. The post Norwegian acquires three B737-800s from lessor appeared first on AeroTime.
