Indonesia to buy 50 Boeing jets under new US trade deal, Donald Trump says
US President Donald Trump announced that he has reached a trade agreement with Indonesia, which includes the sale of 50 Boeing jets.
In a post published on Truth Social on July 15, 2025, Trump said he had finalized an “important deal” with the Republic of Indonesia after speaking with the country’s President Prabowo Subianto.
“This landmark deal opens up Indonesia’s entire market to the United States for the first time in history,” Trump wrote.
Under the agreement, Indonesia will buy $15 billion in US energy, $4.5 billion in American agricultural products, and 50 Boeing jets, many of them 777’s, Trump said.
President Trump noted that Indonesia had agreed to pay a 19% on all goods exported to the US, while US exports to Indonesia will be free from tariffs and non-tariff barriers. He added that if any goods are transshipped from a country with a higher tariff, that tariff “will be added on to the tariff that Indonesia is paying.”
Subianto informed local news outlet Jakarta Globe that the deal comes at a time when Garuda Indonesia, the national airline of the country, needs to modernize its fleet with new aircraft.
“I’m determined to grow Garuda. That’s why we need to acquire new planes,” Subianto told the publication. “I don’t see any problem with it, we do need the planes. Boeing jets are pretty good, and we are still using Airbus planes. This is where our interests meet.”
Trump said that for the first time the US will have “complete and total access to the Indonesian market of over 280 million people”.
“Thank you to the people of Indonesia for your friendship and commitment to balancing our trade deficit,” he concluded.
In a post published on Instagram on July 16, 2025, Indonesia’s President Subianto said that he had “a very good call with President Donald Trump”.
