Ukraine strikes Russian refineries, drone base and military plant overnight
Ukraine has launched a wave of long-range drone strikes on Russian defense-related facilities, in what authorities in Kyiv called a successful overnight operation between August 2 and 3, 2025. The attacks, coordinated by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) and Armed Forces, hit refineries, military plants, and a drone launch base hundreds of kilometers inside Russian territory.
According to Ukraine’s General Staff, confirmed strikes hit:
Ryazan oil refinery, located approximately 180 kilometers southeast of Moscow and around 500 kilometers (310 miles) from the Ukrainian border;
Novokuybyshevsk refinery in Samara Oblast, approximately 850 kilometers (530 miles) from Ukraine;
Fuel and lubricant depot in Voronezh Oblast, identified in reports as the Annaneftprodukt facility, located just 200 kilometers (125 miles) from the Ukrainian border;
Military electronics plant in Penza, believed to be the Elektropribor factory, which produces telecommunications systems and circuit boards for military equipment. The site lies about 600 kilometers (375 miles) from Ukraine;
Primorsko-Akhtarsk military airfield in Krasnodar Krai, used as a base for launching Shahed-type loitering munitions employed by Russia against Ukraine, and located roughly 400 kilometers (250 miles) from the border.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) confirmed that it had directed drone strikes against both the Penza industrial plant and the Shahed storage and launch site at Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
“The SBU will continue to actively work to weaken the military and economic potential of the aggressor country,” the SBU said in a statement.
Russian officials reported at least three people killed and two injured. Among the fatalities were a woman at the Penza site, an elderly man in Samara whose home was hit by debris, and a guard at an industrial facility in Rostov Oblast. Moscow claimed its air defenses intercepted 112 drones, including 34 over Rostov, though local reports confirmed damage at several locations.
The strikes came just a day after a major Russian missile barrage on Kyiv, which killed 31 and injured over 150. While Moscow continues targeting Ukrainian cities, Kyiv is increasingly turning to long-range drone raids aimed at fuel supplies, drone infrastructure, and military production.
With targets as far as 850 kilometers inside Russia, Ukraine is demonstrating its growing ability to hit strategic assets well beyond the front line using domestically developed systems.The post Ukraine strikes Russian refineries, drone base and military plant overnight appeared first on AeroTime.
