Alaska Airlines unveils new livery, launches flights to London and Iceland
Alaska Airlines announced the launch of two new European routes on August 5, 2025.
Starting in the spring of 2026, the US carrier will operate daily nonstop services from Seattle-Tacoma (SEA) to both London-Heathrow (LHR) and Keflavik International Airport (KEF) in Iceland.
The service to London will be operated year-round with Boeing 787-9 aircraft, while flights to Iceland will initially only be operated during the summer season and with smaller B737 MAX 8 narrowbody aircraft.
These are the fourth and fifth long-haul routes to be announced by Alaska Airlines following the completion of its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines and its entry into the long-haul market.
On the Seattle to London-Heathrow route, Alaska Airlines will compete with British Airways, Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic, all of which offer nonstop services between the two cities, while the Keflavik route is only operated by Icelandair.
Earlier this year, Alaska Airlines announced the launch of services between Seattle and Rome Fiumicino (FCO), Tokyo-Narita (NRT) and Seoul Incheon (ICN). Another seven intercontinental routes will be announced in the coming months. The airline has already committed to operate at least 12 long-haul routes within the next five years.
The Alaskan carrier is also awaiting the delivery of 17 new Boeing 787-9s, which will boost its long-haul capacity.
In parallel to this, Alaska Airlines also unveiled a new livery for its new B787 fleet. The new color, which combines different hues of blue and green, evokes the Northern Lights and the nature of the Pacific Northwest, which is the airline’s core market.
Alaska Airlines plans to run its long-haul operation under a dual brand strategy, using the Alaska Airlines-branded Boeing 787-9s to service the new long-haul Seattle hub, while Hawaiian Airlines will retain its own distinct identity and operations throughout the Pacific basin and the Continental US with mostly Airbus A330 aircraft.
