American Airlines announces new batch of long-haul destinations for summer 2026
American Airlines announced, on August 7, 2025, the expansion of its international network for the summer season of 2026 with the addition of six new long-haul routes.
One of the highlights of this updated flight program is the launch of the only nonstop service between the United States and the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
Starting on May 21, 2026, the US carrier will start operating between Philadelphia (PHL) and Budapest (BUD). This is not going to be the only Central European connection operated by American Airlines from its Pennsylvanian hub. On the same date, American Airlines will also launch flights from Philadelphia to Prague-Ruzyne (PRG). Both routes will be seasonal for the time being.
American Airlines is also adding year-round nonstop service between Miami (MIA) and Milan-Malpensa (MXP) and two new seasonal destinations from its Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) hub to Zurich (ZRH) and Athens (ATH). The Dallas-Fort Worth to Buenos Aires (EZE) route will become year-round with its extension during the winter season in the Southern Hemisphere.
All of these services will be operated by Boeing 787-8 aircraft, except for Zurich, which will be operated by a Boeing 777-200.
Tokyo-Haneda (HND) will also see increased premium capacity from both Dallas-Forth Worth, which will operate daily with a Boeing 777-300ER, and Los Angeles International (LAX), which will see twice-daily services with a Boeing 777-200.
