Lufthansa relaunches Munich-Riyadh service with A350-900 after 8-year absence
Lufthansa is relaunching its non-stop service from Munich to Riyadh following a decision by the airline to suspend the route in 2017.
On August 11, 2025, the German flag carrier announced that its Airbus A350-900 aircraft will be deployed to fly passengers from Munich to the capital of Saudi Arabia three times a week from October 26, 2025.
The move coincides with Lufthansa celebrating the 65th anniversary of its first ever flight to Saudi Arabia.
Flights will depart three times a week at 21:45 with LH640 scheduled to arrive in Riyadh at 04:50 local time the following day. The return flight to Germany is scheduled to depart at 06:25 and arrive in Munich at 10:25.
“This gives passengers ideal connections to the global Lufthansa network via the Munich hub. The aircraft used will be one of the world’s most modern long-haul aircraft, the Airbus A350-900, with 293 seats in three classes,” said a spokesperson for Lufthansa.
In total, Lufthansa Group with provide customers with 120 weekly connections to the Middle East
Along with Eurowings and ITA Airways, a Lufthansa Group carrier will be flying to Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah. Between Lufthansa, Eurowings and ITA Airways passengers will be offered a total of 22 weekly departures to Saudi Arabia.
With eight million inhabitants, Lufthansa cites Riyadh’s steady growth and numerous universities, museums and monuments as attractive qualities behind the service relaunch.
“In the future, Riyadh will host major events, such as the annual ‘Riyadh Season’ in winter, Saudi Arabia’s largest festival. The World Expo will take place in Riyadh in 2030, as will the FIFA Men’s World Cup in 2034,” said Lufthansa.
