Aegean Airlines orders two A321XLRs for flights to India
On July 16, 2025, Greek carrier Aegean Airlines announced that it has placed an incremental order for two additional Airbus A321XLR aircraft.
Aegean Airlines and Airbus had already announced an order on March 14, 2025, for eight A321neo aircraft in its standard version.
The XLRs, with their extended range, will allow Aegean Airlines to explore new markets further afield in Asia.
In fact, the airline has already announced that it will launch two new destinations in India – Mumbai (BOM) and Delhi (DEL) – as soon as the new aircraft arrive.
These two A321XLRs will be fitted with a comparatively low-density configuration for only 138 passengers (24 Business Class Suites fitted with full-flat beds and direct aisle access, plus 114 Economy Class seats).
The extra-long-range aircraft will be delivered to Aegean Airlines in December 2025 and January 2026, respectively. Starting in March 2026, they will be deployed on the routes between Athens (ATH) and India.
Aegean plans to service Delhi with five weekly frequencies and Mumbai with three.
This order brings Aegean Airlines’ total order book for A320neo-family aircraft to 60, of which 36 will already have been delivered by the end of July 2025. The remaining aircraft yet to be delivered include 18 A321neos, four A321LRs and the two aforementioned A321XLRs.
With this incremental order, Aegean Airlines has reaffirmed its commitment to a narrow-body strategy to grow its long-haul network.
In 2024, the Greek airline decided to equip itself with four A321LRs, capable of reaching destinations from Athens such as Bangalore (BLR), India, the Seychelles (SEZ), Nairobi (NBO), Kenya, Almaty (ALA), Kazakhstan, and Lagos (LOS), Nigeria. All of these are destinations that Aegean Airlines has said that it is considering serving in the future.
With the XLRs, Aegean Airlines may even be able to reach locations such as Male (MLE) in the Maldives, the entirety of India and certain points in southern Africa.
