Air India resumes paused flights post-AI171 crash, launches new Heathrow route
Air India has announced that it is to restore some of the flights that were cut during a ‘safety pause’ following the tragic crash of Flight AI171, which killed 260 people.
In a statement released on July 15, 2025, Air India said that the pause had enabled the airline to perform “additional precautionary checks on its Boeing 787 aircraft,” as well as “accommodating longer flying times arising from airspace closures over Pakistan and the Middle East”.
The partial resumption will begin on August 1, 2025, with a complete restoration expected by October 1, 2025.
As flights are added back in stages, some services originally planned between August 1 and September 30, 2025, will still be removed from the schedule.
With the partial restoration, Air India will operate more than 525 international flights each week across 63 short, long, and ultra long-haul routes.
Reinstated flights and a fresh debut
In Europe, the airline has announced it will bring back two weekly flights that were previously cut on the Delhi-London (Heathrow) route, with all 24 weekly flights set to operate from July 16, 2025, onwards. The airline will also increase its Delhi–Zurich service from four to five weekly flights starting from August 1, 2025.
In the Far East, Air India will reinstate two weekly flights that were previously cut on the Delhi-Tokyo (Haneda) route, with daily service starting again from August 1, 2025. Additionally, two weekly flights will be restored on the Delhi–Seoul (Incheon) route, with all five weekly flights returning from September 1, 2025.
Furthermore, the airline announced that from August 1 to September 30, 2025, it will launch a new route and run three weekly flights between Ahmedabad and London (Heathrow), replacing the current five weekly flights between Ahmedabad and London (Gatwick).
Air India said it will reduce flights on various routes in Europe, North America, Australia, and Africa until September 30, 2025. The whole list can be found here.
Temporarily suspended routes
Several routes are to remain temporarily suspended until September 30, 2025. These include Amritsar to London Gatwick and Goa to London Gatwick, both of which have three weekly flights suspended.
Additionally, there are seven daily flights from Bengaluru to Singapore that are suspended each week, and the Pune to Singapore route has five flights suspended weekly. The post Air India resumes paused flights post-AI171 crash, launches new Heathrow route appeared first on AeroTime.
