AirAsia expands Australian network, launches direct flights from KL to Darwin
AirAsia Malaysia announced its expansion in Australia with the launch of direct flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) to Darwin International Airport (DRW) in the Northern Territory.
The AirAsia Malaysia (flight code AK) flight to Darwin is scheduled to operate four times weekly starting June 27, 2025.
Darwin is AirAsia Malaysia’s second Australian route. The carrier has been flying to Australia since March 2024, operating flights between Kuala Lumpur and Perth Airport (PER). Meanwhile, its sister airline AirAsia X, offers flights to Melbourne Airport (MEL), Perth, and Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD).
The AirAsia Group (Malaysia and Indonesia), also flies to Perth and Cairns Airport (CNS).

Air connectivity is a priority for the Territory, so we will now be focused on working with all airline partners to ensure all flights see strong commercial outcomes,” Cahill added.
“We are thrilled to launch our very first flight to Darwin, creating greater opportunities for both leisure and business travellers to explore one of Australia’s most vibrant and unique destinations. At the same time, we are opening a new gateway to Asia and beyond for ‘Territorians’ in the Top End of Australia,” said Dato’ Captain Fareh Mazputra, CEO of AirAsia Malaysia.
