Airbus agreement for Thai Airways A350-900 retrofit progresses at AIX 2025
Airbus has signed a signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with and Thai Airways (THAI) to retrofit the airline’s fleet of A350-900 aircraft.
The agreement was announced on April 9, 2025, during a signing ceremony at Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany.
Airbus, which will oversee the retrofit program, said the refurbishment will include state-of-the-art cabin upgrades to “enhance passenger comfort and operational efficiency”.
The Thai Airways A350-900s will be equipped with the latest cabin innovations which include “modernized and elevated” ‘Royal Silk’ business class seats, new premium economy class seats and economy class seats.
The cabin modernization, which is expected to start in 2028, will also see an improved in-flight entertainment system installed.
The retrofitted aircraft are expected to re-enter service in phases, ensuring minimal impact to Thai Airways’ flight operations.
“Airbus is pleased to support THAI in this significant investment in their fleet, ensuring that their A350 aircraft continue to offer passengers an exceptional flying experience. This retrofit aligns with our shared vision of delivering enhanced comfort, efficiency, and sustainability for airlines and their customers,” Balinda Zhang, Airbus Head of Commercial Services Asia Pacific.
Airbus added that the agreement “reaffirms its long-standing partnership with THAI and its commitment to supporting the airline’s fleet modernization strategy”.
According to ch-aviation, Thai Airways operates a fleet of 23 A350-900s, although one is currently registered as inactive.
