Airbus aircraft deliveries drop in January 2025 against previous year
Newly published orders and deliveries data for January shows that European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has seen a slow start to 2025.
According to Airbus, the company delivered 25 aircraft to 17 customers during January 2025, as compared to 30 deliveries to 18 customers in January 2024.
Although no details have been officially released on Airbus delivery expectations for 2025, the planemaker did target delivering around 770 aircraft in 2024 – an average of 64 planes per month.
However, by the end of 2024, Airbus slightly underperformed with the total deliveries reaching 766 – 63 planes per month.
On February 20, 2025, Airbus will disclose its full financial results for 2024 and flesh out its plans for 2025.
According to Reuters, Airbus experienced a shortage of engines in January 2025 after negotiations with CFM International brought forward some deliveries for 2024.
The news outlet also noted a fall in the number of first flights recorded in January 2025 from the company’s assembly bases.
Among the operators to have received new aircraft in January 2025 were China Southern Airlines, United Airlines, Emirates and Japan Airlines.
China Southern Airlines received an Airbus A321neo, A319neo and a A320neo, while two A321neos were delivered to United Airlines.
Emirates received an A350-900, after launching its first in 2024, and Japan Airlines received an A350-1000.
Additionally, Airbus took 55 gross orders (four cancellations) for new aircraft in January 2025 – an increase on January 2024 figures, when it received a total of 31.
All but ten of the aircraft orders were from undisclosed customers while Starlux committed to five A350Fs and Lufthansa ordered five A350-1000s.
In total there were 29 orders for widebody jets and one undisclosed customer committed to 25 A320neos and another unknown operator for 10 A330-900s.
