Akasa Air marks third anniversary of flights, 19 million passengers carried
On August 7, 2025, Akasa Air, India’s newest low-cost airline, celebrated the third anniversary of the carrier operating regular scheduled passenger flights. In a statement issued to mark the occasion, the company stated that the milestone “celebrates three successful years of operations, a journey illuminated by its historical growth momentum since inception.”
Akasa Air operated its first passenger flight on August 7, 2022, operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8 between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Over the past 36 months, Akasa Air has flown over 19 million passengers, including eight million passengers carried in the most recent 12-month period to August 2025, indicating an acceleration in the carrier’s growth rate. According to the airline, it recorded an impressive network-wide load factor of “over 87%”, which says the airline says, “reflects the strengthening trust of travellers in India and beyond.”
Akasa Air has achieved significant operational milestones in its three years of existence, which indicate that the company is determined to maintain its course of growth and network expansion. Having completed over 100,000 total departures, which includes over 3,800 international flights to destinations outside of India, the airline claims to have the lowest cancellation rate and industry-leading on-time performance in Indian aviation.
Akasa AirIn addition to 19 million passengers, Akasa Air has transported over 131,000 tonnes of cargo over the past three years, positioning itself as a significant contributor to India’s cargo ecosystem. Additionally, the airline claims to have forged a portfolio of partnerships with over 1,150 corporate partners, stating the airline is “rapidly becoming the carrier of choice for business travellers in India.”

Akasa Air has grown its current fleet to 30 aircraft, which comprises 23 189-seat Boeing 737 MAX 8s and seven Boeing 737 MAX-8200, which each accommodate 197 passengers. The airline has a further 97 of the latter type on order from Boeing, along with 99 outstanding orders for the larger Boeing 737 MAX 10 variant.
The airline currently serves 28 destinations, comprising 23 domestic and five international cities, including Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Doha, Riyadh, and Jeddah. The airline’s ambition to be a significant global carrier took another significant step forward with the activation of its first codeshare agreement with Etihad Airways in March 2025.
Akasa’s network growth has been matched by impressive financial stewardship. In the company’s 2025 financial year, it registered a 49% increase in revenue year-on-year, driven by a rise in demand along with a gradual rise in fleet and destinations. Capacity in terms of Available Seat Kilometres (or ASKs) grew at a rate of 48% compared to FY2024.
Akasa AirAccording to the airline, during FY2025, it also signed agreements with marquee investors for a fresh capital infusion, pending statutory approvals. “This investment will strengthen Akasa’s balance sheet and provide the financial runway to accelerate its long-term growth strategy, ensuring resilience in a dynamic aviation landscape. Akasa’s financial strategy, rooted in cost leadership, network optimisation, and prudent expansion, positions it for sustainable profitability in a competitive market,” concluded the airline’s statement.
