Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-900ER lands with cargo hold door partly open
An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-900ER landed with a partly open door to the front cargo hold at Portland International Airport (PDX)
The aircraft, registration N402AS, had just conducted Flight 1437 from Los Cabos International Airport (SJD), Mexico, on March 1, 2024.
Upon landing, it was discovered that the front cargo hold door of the aircraft was ajar, as per a report by local KOIN News.
It was reported that live pets were being transported in the cargo area. However, this has not been confirmed by the airline.
After discovering the open door, Alaska Airlines took the aircraft out of service for the remainder of the day. Mechanics inspected the plane and replaced a spring in the door handle. The door was then tested and the aircraft was returned to service.
Alaska Airlines confirmed the incident in a statement, stating that the crew had no indication that the door was unsealed during the flight.
On March 1, #AlaskaAirlines Boeing 737-800 (N560AS) flight #AS1437 from Los Cabos (SJD) arrived at the gate at #Portland (PDX) with the cargo door partially open. There were passengers’ pets inside the cargo hold, but none of the animals were injured.
