Alaska Airlines hit by another IT outage, airline cites Microsoft Azure issues
Alaska Airlines has suffered another IT outage, disrupting its website and temporarily affecting online check-in for passengers, marking the airline’s second such incident in October 2025.
This time, the outage primarily affected digital services and was traced to a global disruption of Microsoft Azure where several Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines services are hosted. According to the airline, this caused interruptions to key systems, including its websites.
“We are bringing impacted systems back online this afternoon, with other services set to resume once Microsoft resolves the issue from its end,” the airline announced in a statement on October 30, 2025. “We apologize for any inconvenience that our guests might have experienced today and appreciate their patience as we navigated this issue.”
As a result of the outage, some passengers were unable to check in online for their flights. The airline advised them to see an agent at the airport for a boarding pass and to allow extra time in the lobby.
Alaska Airlines did not confirm whether the latest outage impacted its flights, but some passengers took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the airline’s operations in recent months and urged the company to strengthen its systems against cyberattacks.
In a statement, Microsoft Azure said that the disruption was due to an “inadvertent tenant configuration change”, which triggered widespread service interruptions for Microsoft services.
While error rates and latency have largely returned to normal, Microsoft said that it continues to address remaining issues and has put in place extra measures to avoid similar problems in the future.
Earlier in 2025, Alaska Airlines faced two major IT outages: one in July 2025 that halted flights for around three hours, and another on October 23–24, 2025, that triggered a system-wide ground stop, resulting in more than 229 flight cancellations and approximately 100 fewer aircraft operating across the US.
