American Airlines premium economy to launch on New York-Los Angeles route
American Airlines is introducing a premium economy service on the iconic stretch between the East and West coasts’ New York and Los Angeles.
On July 25, 2025, American Airlines confirmed that from October 5, 2025, passengers traveling between New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will have an option for “extra comfort”.
“We are excited to provide customers the opportunity to experience our Premium Economy service on our premier domestic route,” said Heather Garboden, American’s CCO. “With the domestic debut of Premium Economy, customers will enjoy a more comfortable seat, enhanced amenities and elevated dining with hot entree choices when traveling coast-to-coast.”
Passengers who select premium economy on American’s transcontinental route will receive priority check-in, security and boarding and once on board, they will find a personal amenity kit with premium skincare products and travel essentials.
During the flight, customers can relax in wider seats with more legroom and rest with an Ostrichpillow lumbar pillow and crepe weave blanket.
As part of the in-flight service, customers can enjoy complimentary drinks and a hot meal with salad and dessert. Customers can also easily charge electronic devices with in-seat power.
According to One Mile at a Time, the change will involve switching from Airbus A321Ts to Boeing 777-200ERs, although American Airlines did not confirm this in its press statement.
