An autobiography by a professional military man, Jean-Paul Jacquet, a brilliant officer who has always straddled the sea and the air.
“Sailor in the sky” is the story of a man whose calling has always been to fly at sea. Born into a post-war rural family, Jean-Paul Jacquet knew from an early age that he wanted to take to the skies, having found his calling during a trip to the Sahara, and had his aspirations confirmed during a stint at the Prytanée National Militaire, a French military school.
The young man entered the French Naval Academy in the early 1970s and opted to train as a pilot. After obtaining his aeronautics certificate in 1976, he enlisted in the French naval aviation, where he spent most of his career in squadrons, flying the BR 1050 Alizé.
After commanding the 6F squadron, he worked at military staff headquarters in Paris. Then, after 411 carrier landings, including 113 at night, he hung up his uniform. In 1995, he joined the senior civil service, serving for a time at the French Ministry of Defense. All in all, an impressive career in aeronautics and serving France, which he relates in these pages. Enjoy the read!
