Cathay Pacific makes a return to Adelaide with three flights per week
Cathay Pacific has announced a resumption of flights between Hong Kong and Adelaide in Australia with a three-times-a-week seasonal service starting later in 2025. The South Australian capital city will be Cathay Pacific’s eighth passenger destination in the Southwest Pacific region.
The new non-stop 4,256-mile (6,810 km) flights between Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Adelaide International Airport (ADL) are due to start on November 11, 2025. “The winter seasonal service resumes an important connection between the airline’s home hub and the South Australian capital, providing more choices for customers travelling between Hong Kong, the Southwest Pacific and beyond,” said an airline statement.
Adelaide joins a growing list of destinations served by the Hong Kong-based carrier in the Southwest Pacific, with the airline also operating year-round services between Hong Kong and Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney, and winter seasonal services to Cairns and Christchurch. Cathay Pacific’s new Hong Kong to Adelaide service will be operated using its fleet of 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, providing customers with fully flat beds in Business, plus premium economy and economy cabins, seating 28, 38, and 214 passengers respectively.
GCmap.comThe new flight schedules will see Cathay Pacific flight CX173 depart Hong Kong at 23:30 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, arriving in Adelaide at 10:30 the following day. The return flights will depart Adelaide as CX174 at 12:00, landing back in Hong Kong at 17:40 the same day. All flights remain subject to regulatory approval.
“We are thrilled to be reconnecting our home hub with Adelaide, a bustling city that holds particular significance for Cathay Pacific,” said Cathay Pacific’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau. “We first launched passenger flights to the South Australian capital in 1992, and then two years later, our first batch of cadet pilots arrived in the city to complete their flight training, marking the start of our more than three-decade collaboration with Flight Training Adelaide.
“With our return to Adelaide, we will be operating close to 90 return flights per week to eight destinations in the Southwest Pacific at the peak of this winter season, providing a great many choices for our customers travelling between the region and our home hub. Whether they are travelling for business, leisure, or to visit friends and relatives, we look forward to welcoming customers onboard and experiencing our signature Cathay Pacific service,” Lau added.
Cathay Pacific In addition to passenger travel, Cathay Pacific’s new Adelaide flights will also offer enhanced options for new and existing cargo customers by providing aircraft belly capacity, complementing Cathay Cargo’s two return freighter flights per week to the Southwest Pacific during the forthcoming winter season.
Further expansion
Together, Cathay Pacific and its low-cost carrier, HK Express, are adding 16 destinations to their expanding global network in 2025, with more announcements yet to come, says the airline group. By the end of the first half of 2025, the Cathay Group’s global route network will reach 100 passenger destinations worldwide for the first time in its history.
