China Airlines becomes first Asian carrier to fly direct to Phoenix from Taipei

China Airlines is set to become the first Asian carrier to fly to Phoenix, Arizona, from Taipei, as part of the expansion of its North American services.  

In a statement released on July 25, 2025, the airline revealed that the new service will start on December 3, 2025. 

The carrier declared that Airbus A350-900 aircraft will be used for this route, offering three round-trip flights each week. The service from Taipei to Phoenix will leave every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.  

The outbound flight CI036 from Taipei to Phoenix will take off from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) at 10:55 local time and fly directly to Phoenix, landing at 08:00 local time. 

For the return journey, flight CI035 from Phoenix to Taipei will leave at 11:55 local time, with a stop in Los Angeles at 12:20 local time, before continuing to Taipei and arriving at Taoyuan airport at 21:30 local time the following day. 

The airline noted that many connecting flights pass through Phoenix, a key gateway to the American Southwest. In June 2025, China Airlines partnered with Southwest Airlines to build a trans-Pacific transfer network.  

In the statement, China Airlines said that the new Taipei-Phoenix route enables travelers to use interline ticketing to transfer to their connecting flight and reach more than 30 inland American cities, all within the same terminal.  

The addition of Phoenix to the network will make the city the carrier’s seventh North American destination for non-stop passenger flights. 

Currently, the airline serves several North American destinations, including New York, Los Angeles, Ontario, San Francisco, and Seattle in the US, along with Vancouver in Canada, offering 40 round-trip flights each week.  

The airline also plans to increase the frequency of its New York route and will become a tenant at The New Terminal One at John F.
