China Southern launches first flight from Sydney to Beijing Daxing Airport

China Southern Airlines’ maiden flight from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) to Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) took to the skies on December 13, 2024.

Flight CZ 5026 departed Sydney at 21:29, and at the time of writing it is en route to Beijing, with an estimated arrival time of 05:27 local time on December 14, 2024, after a flight time of 10 hours and 58 minutes.

The flight is operated on the carrier’s Airbus A330, configured with 28 business class seats and 258 economy class seats.

Flights between the two cities will operate four times a week at first, then increase after an initial 10-week season.

PKX Airport, which opened in September 2019, is more than 100 kilometers away from Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK). It is the second international airport in Beijing. 

PKX Airport is currently the world’s largest single-building terminal and is nicknamed ‘The Starfish’ due to the way its kilometer-long terminals are spread out. 

As of 2024, it is ranked sixth on the list of the world’s largest airports, based on its area size of 47 square kilometers.
