China’s COMAC plans to increase production of C919 aircraft to 50 by 2025
China’s aircraft manufacturer COMAC plans to increase the production capacity for its C919 single-aisle passenger aircraft to 50 by 2025.
COMAC Deputy General Manager Shen Bo announced the target on January 17, 2025, during the annual “Two Sessions” plenary parliamentary meeting in Shanghai.
“In 2025, the production capacity of C919 will reach 50 aircraft, and the number of aircraft off the assembly line is expected to reach 30,” Shen Bo said during the annual meeting, local news outlet The Paper reported.
According to COMAC’s official website, C919 aircraft is the first independently developed jetliner by China that meets international airworthiness standards and has its own independent intellectual property rights. The aircraft has a layout of 158 to 192 seats, and a range of 4,075 to 5,555 kilometers.
COMAC aims to compete internationally with the duopoly of Western planemakers Airbus and Boeing. Currently, there are over 1,000 orders for the C919. Major Chinese airlines like Air China, China Eastern Airlines, and China Southern Airlines have each ordered 100 aircraft from COMAC.

In December 2024, the C919 carried over one million passengers. In 2025, improvements in post-certification management and airworthiness certification for the C919 and C909 aircraft are expected, as reported by The Paper.
Besides the C919, COMAC is also developing the C929 widebody aircraft. Shen Bo said that the C929 aircraft is currently in the early design and supplier selection phase and will soon move to the detailed design stage.
