Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk crashes during training flight in Alaska
A US Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crashed during a training flight near Sitka, Alaska, leaving four crew members with what was described as non-serious injuries.
The Sikorsky helicopter, assigned to Coast Guard Air Station Sitka, crashed near Harbor Mountain, with four people aboard.
Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Arctic District command center in Juneau received the initial report of the crash at about 10:07 local time on June 22, 2026, through the activation of the aircrew’s personal locator beacons.
Rescue crews from Sitka Fire and Rescue arrived at the crash site at about 11:00 and transported all four crew members to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center.
The Coast Guard later said all four crew members were safe.
“We are incredibly relieved our crew members survived with only minor injuries,” Rear Adm. Bob Little, commander of the Coast Guard’s Arctic District, said. “We are grateful for the swift response by the Sitka Fire and Rescue who assisted us during this critical time.”
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The Coast Guard said Air Station Kodiak is repositioning a helicopter and crews to Air Station Sitka to maintain operational readiness in Southeast Alaska following the crash.
The MH-60 Jayhawk is a medium-range recovery helicopter used by the Coast Guard for search and rescue, law enforcement, military readiness and other missions.
Air Station Sitka is one of the Coast Guard’s key aviation units in Alaska, where crews routinely operate in challenging terrain, coastal weather and remote rescue environments.
The crash site is near Harbor Mountain, several miles outside Sitka on Baranof Island. The post Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk crashes during training flight in Alaska appeared first on AeroTime.
