Corporate jet skids off runway in Oregon, crashes into water
A small corporate aircraft ran off the end of the runway while landing at Southwest Oregon Regional Airport (OTH) in North Bend, Oregon, and unintentionally skidded into Coos Bay.
The aircraft, a HondaJet HA-420 registered as N826E, departed from St. George Regional Airport (SGU) in Utah at 05:07 local time on April 7, 2025, and was heading to Southwest Oregon Regional Airport, according to data from flight tracking website FlightAware. The aircraft was operated by Andy Leavitt Enterprises.
According to a statement from Southwest Oregon Regional Airport published on Facebook, the aircraft skidded off the east end of Runway 05/23 and came to a stop in about five feet of water in Coos Bay, roughly 100 feet from the runway.
There were four passengers and one crew member on board. All five were taken by ambulance to Bay Area Hospital (BAH), as noted in the airport’s statement.
The hospital confirmed that all five individuals sustained minor injuries and are in stable condition. Currently, one passenger remains hospitalized in Coos Bay, while another has been transferred to a different facility for services not available at Bay Area Hospital. Three others have been discharged. A hospital spokesperson said that all were alert and oriented upon arrival.
Emergency dispatchers received reports of the incident around 06:12 local time. As of April 8, 2025, some personnel remain on scene while the investigation continues.
Airport officials reported that the aircraft was taken out of the water around 10:00 local time on the day of the incident, after receiving permission from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
This followed the airports and the aircraft owner arranging for a barge and crane operator to assist with the removal. The aircraft is now being stored near the incident site until the NTSB can conduct and complete its investigation.
The airport also announced that commercial flights had resumed after a short closure following the incident. SkyWest, which operates United Express flights to and from San Francisco had originally canceled its daily flight. However, it was reinstated with an hour’s delay for the afternoon.
