On Monday January 13, 2025, at the Chancellery of the Ordre de la Libération, General Christian Baptiste, the Order’s national delegate, officially thanked Éric Trappier, CEO of Dassault Aviation, for financing the purchase of a silver slipcase decorated with a vermeil and enamel Liberation cross, containing the Compagnons de la Libération directory.
This case was acquired by pre-emption on December 16, 2024, at the public sale “De Gaulle. Une succession pour l’Histoire” at Artcurial in Paris, with the support of the Société des amis du musée de l’Ordre de la Libération.
This exceptional object bears, engraved on the inside, the Order’s motto Patriam Servando Victoriam Tulit (By serving the fatherland, he won victory) and, below, in the hand of Chancellor Georges Thierry d’Argenlieu, the dedication “To General de Gaulle, founder of the Order of Liberation. Tribute of respectful fidelity from his Companions. January 29, 1941 – January 29, 1945. On behalf of the Council, the Chancellor G. d’Argenlieu”.
This case, commissioned by the Order and presented to General de Gaulle, is a material illustration of the close ties between the founder and Grand Master of the Order and his Compagnons.
Dassault Aviation is proud and honoured to support the Ordre de la Libération, of which it has been a patron since 2020, by acquiring this unique object, which will now be on public display.
